It's hug your hairstylist day!

Updated: May 6

Today is National Hairstylist Appreciation Day. What a week for this to fall on. On Tuesday, we received the news that California hair and nail salons are in the third phase of reopening. What does that mean? Well, it means that we will have to wait a bit longer to see you. As much as we all want to get back to work and see our clients, it just isn't safe yet.

There has been nothing released, as of now, on what is expected of us when we can reopen (or a date.. even a month that we can expect to). We are licensed by the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology for our establishment and cosmetology licenses. We keep these licenses by following strict guidelines for the health and safety of our clients. We also hold business licenses through the City of San Diego. In order to maintain these licenses, we must follow the laws. If we don't, we could lose all of our licensing.. which is just not a risk I can take. I am committed to remaining professional.

With that said, I really appreciate all of you waiting for us! I have been in this industry for over 15 years and I am honored and humbled by the lives I have touched and the people I have met.

"Some days I come into work and hear you had to put your pet down. Some days I hear you discovered your daughter is an addict. Some days your husband is cheating on you. Some days I hear your mother is dying of cancer. Some days I cry with you and I am thankful that you feel close enough to me to open up your life to me as a friend.
Other days I come into work and hear you just got engaged. Others I'll hear you and your husband are finally taking that vacation you've always wanted. I hear that the adoption is finally going through and you're going to be a Dad. I hear you were approved for your house and can't wait to move in. I hear only one more semester and you're getting your degree. I get to cry with you when you show me your ultrasound pics after trying for five years.
One thing I've never done is go to work and just "do hair". And I wouldn't trade it for the world. Thank you to every client thats let me be much more than a hairstylist!"

Virtual hugs to all of my fellow hairstylists. The world wouldn't be as beautiful without you!
